Tibetan Uprising Day is one of the most important dates on the Tibetan calendar. It marks the anniversary of our people rising up as one on March 10, 1959 to oppose China’s occupation of our homeland and call for the right to determine our own affairs. Although China’s troops eventually crushed their uprising, the Tibetans succeeded in protecting His Holiness the Dalai Lama, helping him escape into exile and keep the Tibetan cause alive.
